Doug
is married to his best friend Ginny, they have 3 daughters
and a son, three
grandsons (one deceased), and six granddaughters.
Born
and raised in southern California, Doug gave his life to Jesus Christ at the
age of 13 at a tent revival being held in his
home town in Bell Gardens.
Not having the benefit of discipleship, follow up or any Christian role
models, Doug lived a life outside the Will of the Lord until the death of his
earthly father in 1982, the death of Doug’s dad had a profound impact on his
life, and through the prompting of the Holy Spirit and The witness of Doug’s
older brother Danny Copen, (Danny and his wife Aggie were then attending
Calvary Chapel Rialto Ca.) Doug rededicated his life to Jesus Christ October
22 1982.
For
the next two years Doug was discipled
via audio teaching tapes by Pastor
Gillett Doggett, then Danny and Aggie’s Pastor, plus regular phone calls
from Danny and other
Christians
that God had led to him and Ginny.
Since those early years Doug and Ginny became
involved in many local area ministries, but there was always that longing to
see an answer to a prayer they had prayed
around a
kitchen
table one night back in 1983, after listening to a teaching tape of Gillett’s,
Doug, Ginny and Doug’s little brother Darren prayed that God would send someone to Ohio to establish a Calvary Chapel here in the Zanesville area.
What a humbling thing it is to know, that God
answered that prayer that night back in 1983 - but
it took 13 years to bring Doug to the place where He could use him.
So with two couples and a house, Calvary Chapel
Zanesville was established in the fall of 1996. God established this
fellowship of believers from a revival that began with that handful of people, and He has added to it as he has seen
fit, many lives have been touched by Jesus through this ministry, and by His
Spirit there will be many more.
To
Jesus be the Glory forever!
