The Lighthouse Christian
Fellowship
Calvary Chapel
Zanesville
Who We Are
Our fellowship grew from the roots of a daily bible study started in 1996. After much prayer, the Lord directed Pastor Doug Copen to begin Sunday morning services at his home in Zanesville. With the adoption of its current by-laws, Calvary Chapel Zanesville was established as a church in 1998 as an affiliate fellowship of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa.
By the end of 1998 the church had spread from one
room in Pastor Doug’s home to three. A video camera had been set up to
show Pastor Doug on a television in the other rooms. A prophecy was given
about the church being in a building by the summer. At the time the
comment was made as if it was common knowledge that the church would be moving.
By the summer, the Lord had supplied the small fellowship with a mobile home
(other wise
known as
“the trailer”) on Harvard Street. The Lord supplied the rent and the
utilities for the mobile home allowing the church to place its resources in the
people by giving away books and other study materials for free.
In 2001 Pastor Doug began to feel the Lord calling the church into another building. Walls in the mobile home had been torn down, new walls made, but the place was simply no longer able to meet the needs of the fellowship.
By May 2001 the elders of the church visited a building
previously owned by the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge
302. The building was
huge, and located in downtown Zanesville, a perfect location for a church that
was called to make disciples.
In October 2001 the negotiations to purchase the building on 3rd street began and the Eagles allowed CCZ to begin construction (and destruction) in what is now the sanctuary.
February 3rd marked the first Sunday morning service in the building. Since then, work has continued on all of the remaining floors to use every square inch of what God has graciously given to this fellowship.
In September of 2003, The Lighthouse Coffee Shop and Bookstore were opened on the second floor. Today, on select events, more than 15 different area churches are represented at the coffee shop, enjoying the music and fellowship of fellow believer's in Christ.
In 2005, with all of the ministries that were taking place - the fellowship, the coffeeshop, the bookstore, and an FM radio station on the way, it was apparent that a single name was needed to encompass all. Thus, Calvary Chapel Zanesville became The Lighthouse Christian Fellowship.
